Camera Gear

The Nikon D7200 - a digital single lens reflex (DSLR) camera with a 24mp APS-C sensor

NIKKOR AF-S DX 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6 This is an effective kit lens for the camera and stays on the camera for most of the time

NIKKOR AF-S 70-300mm f/4G ED VR This is a great telephoto lens as well as being lighter and cheaper than the f/2.8 version, f/4 is perfectly good for landscape photography

TAMRON AF 70-300mm f/1.4-5.6 TELEMACRO - shared with my wife and a good lens for detailed landscapes and macro photography

YONGNUO 50mm f/1.8 is a good prime lens

A Kenro 202 Travel Tripod for everyday use, it's reasonably light, but very effective

My secondary tripod is a A Neewer N284+G0 tripod which keeps things steady for the long exposure shots, it's heavy so I only use it when I’m working out of the truck

I use Cokin P Series neutral density (ND) filters and adapter rings

A Nikon remote is used for most of my photography unless I need the specialist cable release which has a timer for complex night shots

The usual collection of cleaning kit and spare batteries, multitool and head-torch rounds off the bits and pieces, plus the safety and comfort gear that is needed for a day on the moors

It's all carried in a Shimoda Action X50 backpack which is a superb, if pricey, camera bag

Additional camera gear includes a GoPro Hero 8 for time lapse, video and still photography

The Drone

Is a DJI Mavic 2 Zoom carrying a 1/2.3-inch 12-megapixel sensor, including a 2x optical zoom (24–48 mm) and a 2x digital zoom. The camera is very controllable so that clear data can be gathered. The settings are very adjustable for better imaging in still or video so we can gather picture data and manipulate it in post processing. That’s all very dry, in reality; It’s a brilliant drone to fly, intuitive and responsive while being stable in hover and the gimbal takes out any movement or camera shake.

To complete the package I use a DJI Smart Controller. I have neutral density filters for different light conditions and the usual gubbins (anemometer and safety gear) to help me.
